hello there, blogwalker :)
I wanna tell ya something...
finally, I've got my first job, almost two month ago actually. and guess what, it's not a bad job at all, at least for unexperience-fresh-graduated like me. it's quite fun but yet lot of pressure, definitely!
yep, I've grab the opportunity to be a supervisor in one of biggest retail in jawa barat. who don't know YOGYA dept. store?
and it's totally new experience, far from education background... well, not too far, actually. I placed in fresh product department, which mean, I should supervise all about fresh product (mostly agricultural product like fruits and veggies. and the rest is like meat, fish, and bakery), not only maintain & supervise the product, but also people.
talk about salary. I have my own consideration.
the range of salary is on "middle" level. well, it's enough for fresh graduate, and the most important thing, I placed in my hometown. it won't cost any accommodation, little for consumption, and few for transportation, which mean I can save a sum of money, at least a half. :D
but then, it's a big responsibility.
if u think this is a comfort job, think twice.
and, what is the responsibility?
it's looks simple, just make sure the goods (fresh product) is on excellent quality (no flaws & no stinky), looking good & always clean on sale display, have enough stock on store room or cold room (not less, not over, just enough!), maintaining & leading people (esp. in my department, like service crew, and sales promotion girl/boy) motivate & give them daily briefing, calculate a monthly target & growth then arrange a plan how to reach them, and arrange the in-store promo (like big sale, or discount in own department).
but then, it's getting difficult enough on execute them.
the hardest part (for me) is estimating what kind & how much the products you should order. the store will suffer in "loss sell" if there's not enough goods to sell. or the store will suffer "margin minus" if the stocks is too much, because the products (esp. fresh products) is fragile & can be damaged or rotted, then, it can't be placed on display & should be destroyed.
and the second, is maintain the people, esp. for me, the most quiet & anti-social person -__-
I should make a deal with the crew on my department if they broke the rule, or I should find a way how to ask them in effective & efficient ways.
compare to work in plantation?
not too different, they both is "field" job, I mean, not just work in back of table or computer and sit there all day along, you need mobile. but in this case, retail is indoor field job, while plantation is outdoor. it has same 'tiring level", we should be ready for shifting work, extra work in holiday (such as ied or xmas), and no off in sunday.
it's not a monotonous job,
but honestly, I've been trapped in daily routine. and getting bored already.
I have cooperative work team, but my "top management" is too "iron fist", strict in rule, never satisfied & never apreciate the good work... yeah, another pressure. this work world is mean.
it seems would be hard for the first time...
I should be "ready to use" even I still on job training. it's quite hard pressure to me.
but well, I know I can handle it... time will tell ;)
(sorry for my bad english, I just don't want this article too "open" and "readable" hehe.. I'm sure you know what I mean)
cheers.
